Bio

I am a dog loving, trail hiking ,self -improvement enthusiast with a passion for canine assisted living. I have 23 years experiences working as a professional social worker in Prince Edward Island.  When I am not working as a Quality Assurance and Practice Analyst with the PEI government; I am most likely to be hiking with my heart dog, Bean. Bean and I love meeting people when we are out and about in PEI. I have first hand experience of the incredible impact of having a great dog can have on a person’s health and wellbeing. The love and support of a well -trained dog has never been more important for people. As, we are living in uncertain times there is a need for increased feeling of security for many people.  Dog’s have an amazing capacity to sense how their people are feeling and have an instinctive way of knowing when our spirits need to be lifted.

I am the owner and head trainer of Red Dog Training Services( 2014)PEI.  I have been a certified member of the CPDT-KA( 2014-2021) and CAPDT and IAABC memberships. I have attended numerous professional dog training education conferences with the APDT in Hartfort, Las Vegas and Dallas and Fenzi Sport in Ohio. I am currently completing Jennifer Cattee’s Canine Medical Alert Dog Trainer certification. I currently provide puppy socialization, good manners training and public access training for emotional support and service dogs in Prince Edward Island.

What do you believe you can bring to the board and the organization?

Three things that I can contribute to the CAPDT is my knowledge and experience in program development and implementation of core competences and standards; quality assurance and best practice with the Department of Social Development and Seniors . My unique blend of management skills, social work and professional dog trainer, along with entrepreuneurship of a dog training business would benefit the CAPDT in their future initiatives. I am eager to collaborate to make a difference in the world of Canadian dog trainers and I am highly enthusiastic about connecting dogs and people.

I am excited to bring my passion and energy to the CAPDT board and my love of dogs…

Why would you like to serve on the CAPDT Board?

I am very interested in becoming a board member of the CAPDT as it seems to me that this is a pivotal time for the CAPDT to standout as strong organization for meeting the professional needs Canadian dog trainers. I think the time is now to develop strong professional competencies and standards for the dog training in Canada. I would like to be able to contribute to such an endeavor. As a professional dog trainer from Prince Edward Island I would be a strong advocate and support for the development of professional standards for our industry. It is my hope that Canadian dog trainers will be able to meet all their professional and educational credential standards from the CAPDT .
